F. Keller, Philip

d. May 20, 2004

Philip F. Keller of 4026 Hall Corners Road, Interlaken passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Thursday, May 20, 2004 at the age of 81.

Born on February 28, 1923 in Mineola, New York, Phil was the son of Frederick and Emma Martens Keller. He faithfully served in the US Army Air Force, 99th Depot Supply Squadron, during WW II. Phil served in Africa and the Burma-China-India Theatres before receiving an Honorable Discharge on March 22, 1946 with the rank of Corporal.

In 1951 he moved from Long Island to his farm in Interlaken. In addition to operating the farm, Phil worked for the South Seneca School District in Interlaken for over 20 years.

Known to many as the "Pigeon Man of Interlaken," Phil enjoyed raising and racing homing pigeons for many years. He was a long-term member and past President of the Ithaca Racing Pigeon Club and a member of the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg.

Phil also enjoyed planting a large vegetable garden every year and with a hoe in his hands, would joke that "it was one sure way to be out standing in your field". Phil's quick wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Phil was preceded in death by his son, Fred J. Keller and his wife Lucille L. Neumann Keller. He is survived by a son, Philip G. (Mary) Keller of Interlaken; a daughter, Patricia A. Keller of Etna; a granddaughter, Kathy (Steve) Groft and two great-grandchildren.

A Graveside Service will be held at St. James Cemetery in Trumansburg on Saturday, May 29, 2004 at 11:30 am with the Rev. Carl G. Happ officiating. A Military Tribute Service will also be conducted by members of the American Legion Post #770 and U.S. Army Personnel.

Contributions in Phil's memory may be directed to: The Philip F. Keller Memorial Fund, C/O South Seneca Central School, ATTN: TREASURER, 7263 Main St., Ovid, NY 14521.

The family has entrusted arrangements to the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. 1-888-534-5446.
