Frances T. Chicone, formally Francesca Terasa Foti, of Trumansburg died of natural causes on October 30, 2015, four days before her 94th birthday at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by her three children and daughter-in-law.
Frances was born in Reggio Calabria, Italy to Antonio and Caterina Foti. The family immigrated and naturalized in the US. She was a beloved mother who also nurtured cousins, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She made many long-standing friendships with people she met locally and during her travels.
In the tradition of her mother, Frances loved to cook and entertain. Grand meals prepared for family gatherings will be long remembered; simple but perfect food that seemed to magically appear whenever guests arrived, will be cherished most.
Following her father’s interest, Frances was a life-long fan of the New York Yankees. In later years, she enjoyed figure skating and college basketball (especially when Syracuse University or the University of Missouri were playing).
Frances was a faithful and devote parishioner at St. James Catholic Church in Trumansburg and an active member of Trumansburg Senior Citizens.
For all who knew her, she will be remembered above all for radiating unconditional love.
Frances Chicone is survived by her three children Carmen (Mary Jennifer) Chicone of Columbia, MO, Domenica “Mickie” (William Ray) Harris of Horseheads, and Joseph A. Chicone of Burdett; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Frank Foti of Moravia; and sisters Mary Carlson of Russell, MA and Margaret Foth of Port Richey, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph S. Chicone in 1997 after 54 years of marriage and her sister Anna.
The family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church, 17 Whig Street, Trumansburg with Father Bernard Maloney, OFM Cap. officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to kindly consider making a contribution in Frances’ memory to the Trumansburg Senior Citizens, c/o Lois Ditmars, 4250 W. Seneca Road, Trumansburg, NY 14886 or St. James Catholic Church, PO Box 709, Trumansburg NY 14886 or Holy Cross Cemetery, PO Box 289, Watkins Glen, NY 14891.
