Freda M. Teeter of Trumansburg passed away on September 1, 2014 due to complications from Alzheimer’s at the age of 85.
Freda was born on November 5, 1928 in the Town of Covert, a daughter of the late Carlton and Marie (Ike) Frost. Freda grew up as the prettiest girl in Interlaken, NY where she was a cheerleader “even when in the 8th grade,” and she led the world in cheer for her entire life. After graduating from high school, she married Harry Teeter in 1947; a marriage that lasted and prospered for 61 years until Mr. Teeter’s death in 2008. It was a perfect union that produced two imperfect and slightly wayward sons.
While Freda worked in, and for a time managed, the family liquor store business, it was managing her family where she really excelled. In spite of some of her sons’ shenanigans, she was the “lady with the perpetual smile.” Her glass was always half-full, not with a dark, brooding, mysterious cabernet, but rather something more like her – a nice asti spumante perhaps – sweet and bubbly.
Her kindness, like her smile, was constant. In a world where there seemed to be more and more conflict, she was a genuinely nice person. Through three hip fractures and the death of her husband, the light in her eyes still shone brightly. As she became more and more in the grip of Alzheimer’s, her words did not always make sense, but the smile and that light remained and were 100% logical.
Freda is survived by two sons, Mickey and Scott Teeter; granddaughter, Jessica Teeter; two step granddaughters, Kym (Eric) Jackson and Billi Jo Starr; sister, Vivian Miller; brother in law, Phillip Teeter; and sister in law, Margaret Fait. In addition to her parents, Carlton and Marie Frost, Freda was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Teeter; brother, Clyde Frost; and brothers and sisters in law, David and Harriette Gunning, Helen and Keith VanDerzee, Richard Teeter, and Don and Velma Teeter.
Funeral Services will be held privately by family.
The family asks that you don’t give flowers, or even give to a charity, but that you give yourself completely to those you love. Perform random acts of kindness – smile more, laugh more, love more.
