G. Moore, Lewis

Lewis G. Moore, 76, of 3701 Deerlick Springs Road, Interlaken, passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center on Monday, August 21, 2006.

Born at home in the Town of Ovid on June 7, 1930, Lewis was the son of Fred and Inah Palmer Moore. He knew hard work at an early age, accepting many responsibilities on the family farm as a teenager. Lewis earned spending money in those early years by setting pins at a bowling alley and working as a short order cook at the former Sampson Naval College. For 36 years Lewis was a dedicated employee with the Town of Ovid, having served 22 years as the Highway Superintendent. Following retirement, Lewis proudly served as a court attendant in the Seneca County Courthouse.

In addition to serving as a Fire Policeman for the Interlaken Fire Dept., Lewis found time to drive his Amish friends and neighbors to various appointments and build his sons their first bicycles. This willingness to help others will make memories of Lewis linger in the hearts of many-perhaps remembering a quip he shared or the strong handshake and smile he was always eager to offer.

Lewis is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia A. (Covert); three sons, Lewis G. Moore, Jr. (Dawn) of Romulus, Fred W. (Carol) of Adana, Turkey and David A. (Darlene) of McKinney, TX; one daughter, Bonnie D. (Brian) McCauley of

Wabra, MN; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many friends.

The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St. Trumansburg. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 10:00am with the Rev. Derek N. VandeSlunt officiating. Prayers of Committal will be at the Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken. A reception will follow at the Seneca Mennonite Fellowship Church, 2006 Cayuga St., Romulus.
