Gary Vanvoorhees

Gary VanVoorhees, age 63, of 4509 East Seneca Road, Trumansburg, passed away on October 30, 2014 following an extended illness.

Gary was born in Poughkeepsie on September 10, 1951. Despite his challenges, Gary was a kind and loving man with a childlike sense of wonder and curiosity. He enjoyed getting “outta bed” and visiting interesting places in the community. Gary enjoyed children and was especially grateful when parents would bring their children over to talk to him. He loved to learn new words and tried so hard to pronounce them. He always had an “I love you” for everyone.

Gary’s caregivers at the Racker Center will miss him very much. They would like to thank all of the nurses at the hospital that gave him that little bit of extra care to keep him comfortable; the wonderful staff and Dr. Bael at Cayuga Oncology, Dr. Cowdery and family medical; the Johnson Museum; the Science Center; and Cost Cutters of Ithaca for being especially friendly and welcoming to Gary.

There will be calling hours from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Funeral Services will immediately follow at the funeral home at 12:00pm. A dish to pass will follow at the East Seneca House. Friends would ask that if able, attendees please wear orange or something with a monkey, as those were both favorites of Gary’s.
