George W. Boyer of 25 North Main Street, Portville, New York, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 at the Olean General Hospital.

Born August 3, 1920 in Syracuse, New York, George was the son of the late Florenze and Gertrude Woodridge Boyer. On September 10, 1945 in Ithaca, he married the former Ruth A. Hendrix, who passed away on November 4, 1995.

A Veteran of WWII, he served with the United States Army's 76th Infantry in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, and Germany. He was employed at Borg-Warner-Morse-Chain until his retirement.

George was a life member of the VFW in Ithaca, the American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg, volunteer fireman in Trumansburg, an original member of the 39's Camping Club in Trumansburg, and a past Scout Master in Trumansburg for Troops #3 and #13. He was an avid baseball and softball player in high school, on the town teams, and retirement softball leagues.

Survivors include two sons, Greg (Paula) Boyer of Gilbert, SC and James (Rachel) Boyer of Portville, NY; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Boyer; one son, David Boyer; and two brothers, Florenze and Charles Boyer.

Family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday, April 15, 2009 from 7-9 pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 11:00am with the Reverend Marilyn Hale, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Portsville officiating. Committal prayers will follow in Grove Cemetery.
