George W. “Bill” Chase of Trumansburg passed away at home on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the age of 86.

Bill was born in Ithaca on December 19, 1927, a son of the late J. Warren and Leslie (Allen) Chase. After graduating from Trumansburg High School, Bill joined the United States Army. He served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Bill and his wife Margaret owned and operated Chase Sales and Repairs in Trumansburg for many years.

Bill’s passion in life was farming. He enjoyed being able to work on all different types of tractors and farm equipment. He raised pigs and cows on his own farm and loved all his animals, including several dogs over the years.

Bill is survived by four daughters, Ann Lynch, Patricia Lilly, and Kathy Chase, all of Ithaca, and Virginia Sanford of Georgia; two sons, Bill Chase of Dallas, TX and Richard Chase of Ithaca; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret L. Chase in 1998; and two brothers, Earl Allen and Burr Chase.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Bill and his wife, Margaret Chase, will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 3:30 PM in Grove Cemetery, Trumansburg.
