Frederick H. Ungleich, age 79, of 8851 Tunison Rd., Interlaken, went to be with the Lord peacefully at home on Thursday, November 10, 2005, while surrounded by his loving family.
Born on May 11, 1926 in Syracuse, Fred was the son of Henry C. and Helen Kennedy Ungleich. He faithfully served in the US Army during WW II with much of his time spent in Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Fred worked for the Syracuse Floor Contracting Company for several years before founding his own business, "Ungleich Hardwood Floors", in 1952. He operated this successful business alone, in the Syracuse area, working unbelievably long hours without complaint. In 1972 Fred and his family moved from Mattydale to Interlaken. Over the years his sons shared in the workload of this labor-intensive business and Fred was the Senior Partner. Fred's integrity earned him much-deserved respect from his customers and fellow contractors. His smile and positive outlook will be sorely missed.
When Fred was not working he enjoyed his family. His world centered around his wife, Lorraine Bell Ungleich, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Fred loved automobiles and even drove in stock car races at the Brewerton Speedway. Throughout his life he managed to find time to do some hunting and fishing as well.
Along with his devotion to family and work, Fred had a passion for worshipping the Lord. Even though his home church was the Agape Bible Church, where he often sang solos, Fred frequently visited other area churches and occasionally sang at them. In his early years his professional-quality voice found him singing at roller-skating rinks. Later in life he often sang to the residents at the Lakeside Nursing Home, the Reconstruction Home and Titus Towers.
Preceding Fred in death were his devoted wife, Lorraine, on November 11, 1993
and his sister, Cecilia Clymer. He is survived by one daughter, Sandra L. (Michael ) Corriero of Trumansburg; four sons, Rodney F. and Gary C. (Karen) of Interlaken, Daniel T. (Judy) and Samuel H. (Wendy) of Trumansburg; nine grandchildren, Kimberly, Michael, Corinne and Joseph Corriero and Jason, Melissa, Kaylee, Jayna and Maija Ungleich; five great-grandchildren, Judah and Ella Zimmerman, Nadia and Elias Hovanec and Dacia Steele; two step-grandchildren, Cassie and Brittany Stillwell and several nieces and nephews. Fred is also survived by his devoted dogs who never left his side when he was home.
The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg on Monday, November 14, 2005 from 7-9 pm.
Services will be held at the Agape Bible Church, 264 South Applegate Road, Enfield on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at 11:00 am with Pastor Michael Corriero officiating. Prayers of Committal and a Military Honors Tribute will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Interlaken.
