Clarence Harold Bowers of 163 Iradell Road, Ithaca passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the age of 72.
Born on June 23, 1930 in Akron, Ohio, Harold was the son of Grant C. and Mary F. Neptune Bowers. He attended Akron University before joining the U.S. Army in March of 1951. Harold faithfully served with the 226th Ordinance during the Korean Conflict and received an Honorable Discharge on March 7, 1953. Following his discharge from the Army he worked at various companies in the Akron area as a tool & die maker before moving to New York in 1964. In 1964 Harold accepted a position at Smith Corona in Cortland. From 1993 to 1997 he lived in California while he was training personnel at a new plant built by Smith Corona in Mexico. He retired from Smith Corona in December of 1997. During these very busy years Harold also owned and operated a 300-acre beef cattle farm named "Char-Den" in Trumansburg and owned and operated the Unicorn Restaurant in Groton.
He kept his hands active constantly with projects which family members translated into "puttering". His puttering often involved one of his children's or grandchildren's cars or homes as family members were the center of Harold's life. He was intertwined with their events and happenings and always stood ready to offer love and assistance in any way possible. His presence will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved Harold.
He is survived by his devoted wife, of 48 years, Solena M. "Sally" Bowers of Ithaca; two sons, Dennis (Debby) and Charles (Debbie) all of Trumansburg; three daughters, Cinda Bowers and Demaris Bowers both of Trumansburg and Jolene (Al) Christenson of Nunda, SD; eight grandchildren; one sister Gladys (Robert) Ross of Etna, CA; two brothers, Jack E. and John M. both of Mogadore, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses in Trumansburg on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Jeffrey S. Kellam and the Rev. Robert Owens officiating.
In keeping with Harold's wishes, no public calling hours have been scheduled.
