Harold W. Mcgill

Harold W. McGill of Trumansburg passed away at the age of 87 on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 surrounded by family.

Born in Jamestown on September 13, 1928, Harold was the son of the Elliott and Hilda (Andersson) McGill, and stepmother Dorothy McGill.

After graduating from Celoron High School in 1946, Harold's adventurous spirit took him to California where he was an extra in a couple cowboy movies. He then served in the Army during the Korean War, and was honorably

discharged in 1956. Following that he was employed in Jamestown, NY as a claims manager for National Grange lnsurance Company until the Grange transferred him to lthaca as head of the Claims Department. Harold moved to Trumansburg with his wife, Lucille in 1960 where they raised their seven children.

ln 1976 Harold opened the McGill lnsurance Agency in Ovid, New York and operated it until 1996. Harold's love of horses evolved into a second occupation as a horse trainer at Fort Erie and Finger Lakes Race Track. For 50 years Harold was an engaged member of the Masons and further served the community through his participation in the Jaycees. He was a devoted husband and wonderful father, who brought new meaning to unconditional love.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille K. McGill in 2014 . He is survived by seven children: Donya (Danny) Knapp, Darlene (Don) Schlather, Deborah (Ron) Murazzi, Doug (Penny) McGill, Daryl (Sue) McGill, Dorothy McGill, and Devin McGill; 13 grandchildren: Kristen Kelly (Stephen), Kyle Knapp, Karson McGill (Lindsey English), Michele and Peter Murazzi, Jonphilip and Faith McGill, Lauren McGill, Rick Murphy (Sherry), Justin Murphy (Emily), Nicole Marranca, Sam Marranca (Allie), and Brandon McGill; a sister, Nancy Holland; and many nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00pm on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at theTrumansburg United Methodist Church, 80 East Main Street, Trumansburg. Burial will be held in Grove cemetery with Military Honors. A reception will follow at the American Legion.
