Helen T. Oppel

Helen T. Oppel, of Trumansburg, passed away at home on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at the age of 94.

Born on July 23, 1917, in Brooklyn, NY, Helen was the daughter of Frank and Sophie (Vollkommer) Blumenstetter. After graduating from high school she went on to attend business college.

Helen and her husband Karl lived for many years in Tom’s River, NJ, where she was active in the Seaside Chapter of the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Lavallette, NJ. Throughout her life Helen liked to travel, especially enjoying her trips to Casino’s. When at home she was happy spending time gardening or keeping busy making crafts. After moving to the Trumansburg area to be closer to her daughter, Helen was a member of the Trumansburg Senior Citizens and St. James Church.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Karl, and her daughter, Geri Stevenson. She is survived by two grandsons, Anthony (Larraine) Amalfitano of Baldwinsville, NY and James (Tina) Amalfitano of Shirley, NY; great-grandson, Luke Amalfitano; brother, Raymond (Marian) Blumenstetter of Tucson, AZ, and son-in-law, Keith Stevenson of Trumansburg.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. John Tokaz, OFM Cap will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 23, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church, Trumansburg. Prayers of committal will immediately follow in St. James Cemetery.
