Hester Welch

Hester V. Welch of Trumansburg passed away at Beechtree Care Center surrounded by family on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the age of 82.

Hester was born in Ithaca on May 13, 1934, a daughter of the late Kenneth and Beth (Twitchell) Vann. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and National Honor Society. Hester married Kenneth Welch on September 9, 1956 and the couple raised their family in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. In 1998, Hester retired from her position as a computer programmer at Geary Corporation. She was an active member of PEO and joined Chapter BJ after moving to Ithaca. She was an active member of the Trumansburg United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women during her time in the area.

Hester grew up with a summer cottage on Cayuga Lake and always spent time in the area on the lake on her family’s land. She and Ken built a home on the Lake and retired to it in 1990.

Hester is survived by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth N. Welch; three children, Wendy J. Welch, Thomas A. Welch, and Richard V. Welch; three grandchildren, Cara M., Patrick J., and Shannon B. Welch; and sister Alice Vann Logie.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, 80 East Main Street, Trumansburg.
