Hilda B. Sine, of 214 Culver Rd., Ithaca, passed away on April 2, 2008 at Lakeside Nursing Home, at the age of 88.

Born April 2, 1920 in Ithaca, Hilda was the daughter of the late Howard W. and Caroline (Field) Babcock. A lifetime resident of the Ithaca area, Hilda was a graduate of Ithaca High School and attended Cornell University. A caterer for 30 years, Hilda taught classes in cake decorating and various crafts. She developed one of the first protocols for home freezing at Cornell University. At one time she drove school bus for Inlet Valley School. Hilda spent 40 years as a 4-H leader in Tompkins County, and was a former President of Tompkins Cooperative County Extension Board of Directors. She was instrumental in the acquisition of Tompkins County 4-H Acres. She was also a member of Grange, Home Bureau, and a 70 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. Hilda enjoyed bird watching and flower gardening.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J. Sine; her daughter, Gail S. Brown; her grandson Martin P. Jager; and her great-granddaughter Amanda L. Haight.

She is survived by her daughters, Judith S. (Peter) Jager of Trumansburg, and Sally S. (Tom) Brown of Groton; 7 grandchildren, Maria Haight, Rebecca Gamble, Scott A., Matthew M., Michael and David Brown, and Dallas Midler. Hilda is also survived by her great grandchildren, Drew Haight, Mitchell, Aaron and Samantha Brown, Nathan, Elizabeth, and Katelyn Gamble, Riley, Harrison and Dalton Brown, and Jack and Jonah Medler.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor Tom Miller will be held at 11:00am on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Reach Out for Christ Church, Johnson Road, Dryden.
