James H. Thurber, 73, formerly of Ithaca died on Father's Day, June 15,
2003 in his daughter's arms. Jim was at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes
Barre, PA for the last 6 months with advanced Parkinson's Disease. He
grew up in Buffalo, NY the only child of the late Howard and Mildred
Thurber. As a young man he spent the summers at his aunt and uncle's farm
in Port Crane and later moved to the Ithaca area. Jim served in the US
Army from 1954-1960. He was a well respected businessman for many years.
He was known as Brother Jim in the Lay Brothers of the Common Life
Ministry.
He is survived by daughter Mary Jo and Bob Condgon of Trumansburg,
daughter Joyce Newell of California and son James Thurber of California.
Grandchildren include Christopher and Justine Petry of Trumansburg;
Jennifer, Danielle and Chelsea Newell of California and Rachel Thurber of
California.
A funeral service will be held at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South
Street, Trumansburg on Friday June 20, 2003 at 10:00 am with the Rev. EugeneO'Hara, OFM Cap. officiating. A burial with full Military honors will take place at the US National Cemetery in Bath, NY on Friday at 1:30pm.
