Ida M. Christianson of Ithaca, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the age of 91.
Born in New York City on October 6, 1917, Ida was the daughter of late Frank and Ida (Glutasaris) Krammer, both from Hungary. She married Kristian A. Christianson, who was born in Norway, in 1953. Kris served in the U.S. Army during World War II and returned to New York City as a professional power engineer. He was the Chief Engineer for the New York Institute for Special Education in the Bronx.
After graduation from secretarial school, Ida was an executive secretary for several companies in New York City including the National Shoe Retailers Association and the Crestwick Card Company. She worked as the Registrar for the New York Institute for Special Education for more than 20 years and retired from there in 1980.
Ida lived in New York City, Stowe, Vermont, and Wappingers Falls before moving to Longview in Ithaca in 2000.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and her sister, Mary Ida Strassburg in 2008. She is survived by four nieces, Carol Jean (James) Doolittle of Trumansburg and their son Lawrence, Lynn (Peter) Dragasakis, Carol Ann (Robert) Janickey, and Torri Lee (David) Hill; and two nephews, Kenneth (Terry) Christianson and Donald (Kathy) Christianson.
A private graveside service will be held at the Wappingers Falls Cemetery in the Spring.
