Imogene “Gene” Housworth

Imogene "Gene" Housworth, beloved wife and mother, left this world on July 19, 2007, age 84, at Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca, New York. Gene was born in Hornell, NY on March 16, 1923, only child of the late Sarah Iva (Dinniny) and Frederick Watrous. Gene was a longtime resident of Jacksonville, NY.

With husband, Hank, of 64 years, together they raised 7 children, three sons and four daughters. Gene and Hank are an inspiration to their family and were a shining example of a time-tested, loving relationship. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, trying new recipes and playing cards with her lady friends but family was of utmost importance to her. Gene was a special lady. She was a caring and generous person who gave her time and talents to her community, friends and family.

Gene was a member of the Jacksonville Community United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and Trumansburg Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her flowers, sewing, crafts, cooking, and playing cards. She had been active in 4-H and Home Dem and was a Trumansburg Gemm Shoppe volunteer.

Gene was preceded in death by daughter, Connie, one granddaughter, Karen, daughter-in-law, Sharon Housworth (Jim), and husband, William Henry (Hank) Housworth. She is survived by son, William (Nancy) Housworth; daughter, Bonnie (Bill) White; daughter, Joan (John) Manheim, all of Trumansburg, NY; son, Jim Housworth, Ithaca, NY; son, Jerry (Eleanor) Housworth, Owego; Nancy (Mike) Rundle, Elmira, NY; seven granddaughters, four grandsons and eight great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at the Jacksonville Community United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at 1 pm with the Rev. Nelson Reppert officiating. Prayers of Committal will follow at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. The family invites everyone in attendance to join them for a reception in the church hall, immediately following the Prayers of Committal at the cemetery.
