Joe J. Vander Weide of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, ( a former resident of W. Bates Road in Trumansburg, NY for 12 years before moving to Pennsylvania in 1995), passed away at his home in Carlisle on Sunday, May, 8, 2005, at the age of 91.

Born on April 7, 1914 in Patterson, New Jersey, Joe was the son of Nicholas and Jennie VanGrouw Vander Weide. He was a dairy farmer most of his life and operated farms in NY, NJ and PA. Church was also an important part of Joe's life. He was proud to have served as the Sunday School Superintendent at the Wesleyan Methodist Church in Sussex, NJ. Joe was always full of life and never passed up the opportunity to "tease" someone in a fun-spirited way. He also looked forward to fishing, especially the memorable deep-sea expeditions.

Joe was preceded in death by his son, Richard John Vander Weide in 1971. He is survived by his wife, of 67 years, Mary of Carlisle, PA; one son, Nicholas of Equinunk, PA; one daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Bloom of Shermans Dale, PA; six grandchildren, Candice Jenkins, Joseph and Cheryl Vander Weide, Beth Heller, William Bloom, Jr. and Sara Bloom; five great-grandchildren, Kaylee Bloom, Colby and Riley Heller and Cordell and Brodrick Bloom and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive their friends, at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg, on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 from 6-8 pm.

Services will be held, at the funeral home, on Thursday, May 12, 2005 at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Nicholas Vander Weide officiating. Prayers of Committal will follow at the Ovid Union Cemetery.
