Michael J. Churey of 39 Cemetary Road, Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly at the Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, March 14, 2006, at the age of 83.
Born on August 26, 1922 in Ithaca, Michael was the son of Charles and Anna Restey Churey. During WW II he faithfully served as a Medic in the U.S. Army Air Force. Following his Honorable Discharge from the service on January 30, 1946, with the rank of Corporal, Michael accepted a position with Bowers Fuel Company in Trumansburg. He enjoyed his employment with Bowers Fuel for over 15 years before the Village of Trumansburg Public Works Department asked him to come aboard. Michael eventually retired from the Village, which allowed him even more time to devote to his passion of golf. Most often, his brother, George would accompany Michael on an area golf course for a few rounds or as part of a league.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Mary Durling Churey, three brothers, George, Andy and Robert and one sister, Anne. He is survived by two brothers, John (Josephine) of Ithaca and Peter (Elizabeth) of Genoa and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2006 from 6-8 pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg.
A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 10:00 am in the St. James Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Eugene O'Hara, OFM Cap. as celebrant. Prayers of Committal, at Grove Cemetery, will be scheduled at a later date.
