Jack Belmont Wilson of 120 Powers Rd, Binghamton, NY, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at the Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton on June 18, 2012 at the age of 90.
Born in Morgantown, WV on December 1, 1921, Jack was the son of Deward and Donna (Stump) Wilson. He entered the US Army on July 7, 1942, serving in the Artillery 80th Division; and while in the European Theatre, Jack served with the 905th Field Artillery. He was awarded a Bronze Star and received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant on October 10, 1945.
Jack received his BS, MS and PhD in Plant Pathology at West Virginia University in 1956. He was a lifelong supporter of WVU and a loyal Mountaineer.
He accepted his first position in the Dept. of Botany at the University of Maryland in 1956. He completed his distinguished career as the North Atlantic Area Director of the US Department of Agriculture with headquarters at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, retiring in January 1986.
In addition to his wife, Vivian Jean Fike Wilson of Binghamton, NY, Jack is survived by five sons, John (Diane), James (Sandra), Jeffrey (Judith), Joel (Mindy) and Julian (Stacy); one daughter, Jennifer DiBerardino (Frank); 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Lou Goodwin and Jacqueline Loring and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, 1290 Fairmont Road, Morgantown, WV. Internment will follow at the cemetery.
