Jackson E. “Earl” Wright of Trumansburg passed away at his son’s home surrounded by family on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the age of 81.
Earl was born on January 23, 1934 in Ithaca, a son of the late Charles and Florence (Jackson) Wright. He was a graduate of the Trumansburg Class of 1953, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. Earl received several awards and honors for his athletic abilities and was the catcher for the only Trumansburg Baseball team to win a State Championship in 1950.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 770 in Trumansburg. Earl was a member of the Painters Union Local 178 and worked as a painter working for a variety of contractors over the years, eventually retiring from Cornell University. Always a sports enthusiast, he played horseshoes and softball for many years.
Earl is survived by four children, Terance Wright, Earl (Treska) Wright, Timothy (Dottie) Wright, and Bobbi (Mike Burgess) Wright; three grandchildren, Morgan, Victoria, and Casey Wright; three step grandchildren, Michelle Carroll, and Kourtney and Taylor Miller; three step great grandchildren; three sisters, Rosalie Mayo, Cora Ann Aumick, and Betty Williammee; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Wright in 1990; five brothers, Roy, Bob, Clarence, James, and Kenneth Wright; and a sister, Letha Dean.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at the American Legion Post 770, 4431 Seneca Road, Trumansburg. A reception and gathering will immediately follow. Burial will be held in the Spring at the convenience of the family.
