James Dew, of 4441 Ploss Lane, Trumansburg, passed away at home surrounded by family on Monday, January 14, 2013, at the age of 67.
Born in Ithaca on February 14, 1945, Jim was the son of the late John and Iva (Brewer) Dew. After graduating from high school, Jim joined the United States Army, serving for two years until his honorable discharge in 1965. Jim was employed at various places over the years including; P&C in Trumansburg, driving school bus for the Trumansburg School District, and finally the Enfield Highway Department.
Jim was always active in the Trumansburg community, spreading his time and talents across a variety of organizations. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT, served as the crossing guard for the Trumansburg Schools, and was the superintendent for Grove Cemetery. Proud of serving his country, Jim was a member of the American Legion Post 770, serving as Commander for two years.
He loved spending time outdoors, hunting from his favorite tree stand every hunting season. In his free time, Jim enjoyed woodworking and watching NASCAR. Most of all, Jim cherished the time spent with his wife, son, daughter in law, and granddaughters. His kind eyes and warm spirit will be missed.
Jim is survived by his wife, Cindy of Trumansburg; son James (Amber) Dew of Trumansburg; two granddaughters, Anna and Alex; a brother, Dick (Dixie) Wager; two sisters, Barbara Gregorie, and Doris (Bob) Wehe; two step-brothers, Bucky (Hazel) Dew and Gary Dew; two step-sisters, Juanita (Milt) Sowards and Threassa (Dave) McCoy; and in-laws, Doug and Carolyn Duddleston.
A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the American Legion Post 770, 4431 Seneca Road, Trumansburg. In keeping with Jim’s wishes, please dress casually and if so inclined, bring a favorite dish to share. Prayers of Committal and Military Honors will be held at a later date in Sampson Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery.
