James D. ‶Jim″ Martin

d. September 27, 2018

James D. “Jim” Martin, 57, of Trumansburg passed away peacefully at Pathway Home of the Finger Lakes surrounded by family on Thursday, September 27, 2018, after a brave battle with ALS.

Jim was born on July 31, 1961 in Ithaca. He graduated from Trumansburg High School and attended Michigan State where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Communications. Jim worked at Nielsen, for 27 years as a Senior Client Sales Director.

An outdoorsman at heart, Jim truly appreciated all the beauty of the area. He was an avid skier, hiker, and golfer. He also had a keen sense of the history of the Trumansburg area. Every summer Jim looked forward to hanging by the pool with family and friends and attending the Grassroots Music Festival. Jim was a lifelong sports fan rooting for Michigan State, the Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills. Nothing gave him more joy in his life than being a loving husband and great father. Jim’s proudest moments included seeing his daughter get married and seeing her earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College.

Jim is survived by his wife, Ann Martin; daughter, Olivia (Timothy) Martin Westlake; mother, Carolyn; father, Donald Martin; siblings, Linda (Robert) Carpenter, Steve (Chris) Martin, Kelley (Kenny) Hill, and Karen (Bruce) Vann; mother and father in law, Margaret and Clifford Northrup; sister in law, Catherine (Joseph) Allen; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Daisy and David Martin.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 11:00am at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, 81 Main Street, Trumansburg. Burial will follow in Grove Cemetery, and immediately after friends and family are invited to gather at the Trumansburg Golf Course to celebrate Jim's life.

The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Jim’s memory to kindly consider the Pathway Home of the Finger Lakes, PO Box 516, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
