James G. “Jim” Sladish of Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the age of 66.
Jim was born in Ithaca on December 30, 1949, a son to John and Anna (Teeter) Sladish. After graduating from high school, Jim joined the United States Navy where he honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked for Cayuga Medical Center as a hospital aide in the x-ray and radiation department for 37 years prior to his retirement. Jim was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering on the Buffalo Bills, watching NASCAR rooting for his favorite racer, Danica Patrick, and watching the Indy races. He enjoyed hunting, took great pride in his model train collection, and loved camping throughout the area with family and friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 42 years, Debbie Sladish; a daughter, Megan; mother, Anna Sladish; sister, Janet Newport; brother and sisters in law, Stan (Barb), Laurie, and Cindy (Terry); close friend, Glenda Mattoon; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Prayers of Committal with Military Honors will follow at Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.
