Janet I. Smith

Janet Newhart Smith, 71, formerly of 9668 Burdick Rd., Interlaken, passed away on March 29, 2007, at the Beechtree Care Center in Ithaca.

Born on January 5, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Brady and Florence (Cornell) Newhart. Upon her graduation from high school in 1954, Janet moved to Florida where she resided until her retirement in 1997. She then returned to the Ithaca area to be near her family.

Janet is survived by one brother, Bruce (Jackie) Newhart of Interlaken; two sisters, Thelma Onan of Auburn and Marge (Ray) Stevenson of Trumansburg; a son, Steven (Trish) Smith of Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and her good friends, Barb and Joe Wild of Florida.

In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward and Brady; three sisters, Connie, Betty and Geraldine; brothers-in-law, John Onan and Jim Wilson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg, with the Rev. Michael Corriero officiating. Interment will follow in Hayts Cemetery, Ithaca.
