Janyce M. (Marquart) Fergus

Janyce M. Fergus of Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the age of 84.

Jan was born in Trumansburg, NY on May 30, 1939, a daughter of the late John and Leona (nee Murphy) Marquart. A local girl for her whole life, Jan spent many years working in and around Ithaca and finding a passion in her early years for bowling. That competitive spirit followed her in life, as she never turned down a card game with friends and family. She was proud to be a 68-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. An avid gardener who enjoyed watching the birds visit her beautiful gardens.  A devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, her love of family and family traditions will live on for many years. She will be missed by many, including her extended family at the Falls Tavern and Juniper Manor.

Jan is survived by three children, Randy (Grace) Fergus, Karen (Dan) Rounds, and Kristen (Kevin) Romer; sisters Donna and Cheryl; grandchildren, Daniel (Courtney) Rounds, Allison (Michael) Romer, Tyler Romer, Karissa and Zachary Rounds; step grandchildren, Megan (Kevin) Romer, Hannah (Nick) Martelli, and Tabitha Rounds; great grandchildren, Malcolm, Daniel James and Noah; her long time best friend, Loretta (Bob) Cornelius.  Janyce was preceded in death by her parents; father of her children James Fergus; brother William and sister Theresa.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 8th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, Trumansburg. The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Jan’s memory to kindly consider Trumansburg United Methodist Church or the Tompkins County SPCA. She had a love for all animals.
