Jean J. Hankinson

November 29, 1927 — October 31, 2023

Trumansburg

Much to our chagrin, this sassy lady told us she was ready to follow when her husband of 66+ years, Bernie, passed away nine years ago. She got the last word and made good on her promise October 31, 2023, passing away in the house she and Bernie built; the home where he too passed in 2014. Born Jean Lucille Jordan on November 29, 1927, one of 8 siblings, Jean J. Hankinson grew up in Ithaca eventually settling in Trumansburg, NY raising their only daughter, Linda.

Jean was an avid golfer and bowler in her early years after retirement from the City of Ithaca. Never one to sit still, Jean volunteered in her later years for Trumansburg’s Elementary School reading program and Gemm Shop. An active member of Trumansburg Senior Citizens, Jean particularly enjoyed her Tuesday morning rounds of Pokeno with last hands played on her final earthly day. While many will miss her vegetable beef soup at the local bazaars, none will miss her baking more than our Bryon; one word from him would produce the most delicious deliveries. 29 days shy of 96 years, Jean also enjoyed horse racing and newfound joy in gambling, painting, and wine slushies.

Left to fill the void until we meet again are Jean’s constant companion and partner in crime, her beloved daughter, Linda, and son-in-law Mark Dresser; granddaughters Terri (Mike) Knebel and Kim Marie (Bryon) Moore and her pride and joy, her great-grandchildren: Keegan (Marie Griswold) Moore, Kai Moore, Nicholas and Joshua Knebel. Jean also leaves her older sibling Carl Jordan, her youngest sister, Kathleen Teaney and cousin Sally (Dave) Hoyt.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because she lived, and what a full life it was; may we all be blessed with even a fraction of her vibrance.

At Jean's request, there will be no services. For those that want to honor her memory, we ask that you do so by visiting with friends over a cup of coffee at the Fall's Tavern, volunteer with a local organization or donate to the Trumansburg Gemm Shop.
