Jessica A. Guthrie

Jessica A. Guthrie of Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 14, 2021 at the age of 69.

Jessica was born in Elmira, NY on August 30, 1951, a daughter to the late Donald and Sally (Record) Guthrie. Jessica is survived by her siblings; Mary Guthrie, Ben (Hilary Gifford) Guthrie, Dan Guthrie and Don (Karen) Guthrie; nieces Georgia Guthrie (John Picard), Hannah O’Meara (John), Maggie McCurdy, nephew Charlie McCurdy, grand-nephew Wesley Pickard, and many close cousins and friends.

Jessica's great gift to the world was her unbounded enthusiasm.  You couldn't know Jessica for very long without also knowing her love of fireworks, blues music, sunsets on the lake, and giving and receiving presents. Her verve for life encompassed many cherished decades-long friendships, and her warmth and support was felt deeply by her family, as well as the people she worked with.

Jessica was a traveler. From the moment she left home for college at Boston University she was always in motion. She travelled to France, Spain, the Canary Islands and Brazil. Most recently she traveled to Ireland with extended family for her niece Hannah’s wedding.

Jessica worked for many years for the Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Career and Technical Center, helping students highlight and present their strengths to future employers. Most recently she worked for Racker Center assisting clients with special needs. In both of these roles she used her skills in relating to all kinds of people and being a fierce advocate for them.

Due to concerns about Covid, the family will postpone plans to honor her until a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests you make a contribution to an animal welfare organization of your choice. Jessica’s favorites include Stay Wild Wildlife Rescue of Trumansburg or the Humane Society of Schuyler County.
