John J. Clink, age 74, of 3688 Clinton Street, went home to be with the Lord he loved so much on Saturday, December 1, 2007 following an extended stay at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.
Born August 28, 1933 in Guilford, NY a son of the late William V. and Mae F. (Chambers) Clink. John's love of dairy farming started at the early age of 12, and he then followed a career as a diesel mechanic, working at Truck Town in Geneva for several years, and at Superior in Interlaken, retiring in 1983. John had been a faithful member of the Covert Baptist Church and the Covert Grange.
John's focus was his family, nurturing and fostering their needs and showering them with love and affection. He was a "gentle giant", placing the needs of his children ahead of his own.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Catherine G. Clink; his children, John R. Clink of Newfield, Richard D. (Louanne) Clink of Lansing, Michael E. (Mary) Clink of Florida, Laurie (Will Crisp) Clink of Mecklenburg, and Carol (Ron) McCray of Lansing; his son in law, Rick Mix of Glen Aubrey, NY; daughter in law, Susan Clink of CA; siblings, Nora Ollis, Gene Clink, Joan Hopkins, Florence Darro, Harold Clink, Darlene Bickham, Donald Clink and Mary Warrick; stepchildren, Veronica, Lloyd, Wayne and Kenny; twenty-four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Ploss Clink; his son, Calvin D. Clink and daughters Virginia Clink and Lisa Mix; and by his siblings, Howard, Joseph and Virginia Clink, and Rose King.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the First Baptist Church, 4443 Seneca Road, Trumansburg. A funeral service will then be held at 2:00pm officiated by Pastor Nathan Weidman of the Covert Baptist Church.
Prayers of Committal will be held at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John's memory may be directed to the Covert Baptist Church 9268 Route 96, Interlaken, NY 14847. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg.
