John J. Sorgi of Trumansburg fondly known as Sorg as well as many other nicknames, passed away on February 8, 2025 at Cayuga Medical Center with his family by his side at the age of 77.
Born on July 8, 1947 Ithaca, New York, John was the eldest son of John and Catherine (Countryman) Sorgi.
He attended and graduated from Newfield High School. In 1959, the Sorgi family opened Ithaca Harley Davidson a venture that not only ignited John’s passion for motorcycling but also fostered many cherished friendships. He began as a mechanic, where his skilled hands and genuine spirit drew customers and friends alike into his world. Over time, he evolved to become a dealer, a role that allowed him to share his love of motorcycles countless others. After the death of his father, Sorg took the lead and built a new facility for Ithaca Harley in Cayuta, New York. He was also a member of the Finger Lakes Harley Owners Group and the American Motorcyclist Association.
Known for being “quietly hilarious,” he possessed a unique wit that all who knew him will fondly remember. John played slow pitch softball in Ithaca for many years and enjoyed bowling and golfing, but was not much of a dancer. His love of games extended to playing Quick Draw and trying his luck with the lottery.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Bev Sorgi; children, Jeffrey (Melody) Beebe, Richie Beebe, and Christopher (Lori) Beebe; grandchildren, Nicole and Nicholas Beebe and Josh and Christina Beebe; siblings, Pat McShea and Jean (Carol) Sorgi; brothers-in-law, Peter Brock and Jim Cargill; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bill Sorgi.
Though he will be deeply missed in this world, the legacy left by Sorg is one crafted through hard work, quiet humor, loyalty and love—the kind of heritage that endures through shared laughter and cherished memories.
The family will be present to receive friends from 1:00 to 4:00pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 4:00pm at the funeral home. A Celebration of Sorg's Life will also be announced in the Spring.
The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in John's memory to kindly consider the Parkinson's Foundation.
