John W. Andrews of 4735 Seneca Road, Trumansburg, passed away at home on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the age of 64.
John was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 24, 1949, a son of the late George and June Andrews. He attended school in Greece and was a graduate of Arcadia High School. John retired in June of 2013 after working for Pritchard Automotive as an auto technician for over 25 years.
John loved fishing, a true catch and release fisherman. His tales about the “big one that got away” were many and were recounted with dry humor to any and all listeners. In addition to buzzing around on his motorcycle, John could be spotted tinkering in the invention of who knows what. His above ground garden creation came long before gardeners’ catalogs cashed in on the idea and his intricate watering system supplied water to the garden as well as plantings around the house. John enjoyed watching and observing nature. A variety of birds could be spotted happily feeding on the feeding systems John devised to keep the marauding squirrels away. He would delight in telling about the antics of the numerous deer and bunnies making use of their backyard nature preserve. Another backyard treat hosted by John was his annual fireworks display. What he put together lit the sky with wondrous colors and sparkles the likes of which mirrored his life.
John loved taking care of his family. He and his trusty cameras documented the cherished times spent with family and friends. His great sense of humor and unconditional love will be missed.
John is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joanne Andrews; two children, Carrie Andrews (Scott Adair) and Graham Andrews (Ashlie Cooper); two sisters, Robbyn Dundon and Mary (Joe) Camiolo; best friends, Tim and Dona Lynch; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are welcomed to a graveside service at Grove Cemetery, Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 P.M.
The family asks those who wish to make a contribution in John’s memory to kindly consider the Tompkins County SPCA, 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Salvation Army, 150 N. Albany St., Ithaca, NY 14850.
