Julia E. Morehouse

Julia E. Morehouse, “Mama Julia”, age 95, of Trumansburg completed her journey here on Earth and was reunited with her beloved husband, Grover, on Monday, October 30, 2023.

Julia was born in Newark Valley on October 10, 1928, a daughter of the late Lloyd and Josephine. Julia moved to Trumansburg as a young woman and new bride with her husband, and together they settled in to raise their children. Julia immediately fell in love with, and passionately embraced her new found small town community.  Following her soul that was born to nurture, her heart to love, and hands to hold she opened a day care, and quickly and affectionately became known as Mama Julia throughout the area. Julia lived by and spoke the words daily, "My heart and home are always open", thus along with her many cherished children, Julia embraced all who were in need of a safe haven, regardless of circumstances, age, friend, or stranger.  A lover of all God's beauty, she often could be found outdoors, gardening, reviving a sick plant, tending to or greeting an animal, gazing at clouds, and especially marveling all things butterfly.

Julia is survived by five children, Theresa, Christina (David), Mary, Julia, and Tom (Jen); 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Mary; and sister in law, Ruby; and numerous nieces and nephews, and acquired daughters Tammy, Marie, and Melissa. In addition to her parents, Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Grover “Tot” Morehouse; daughter, Frances; brother, Lloyd; and numerous other loved ones.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday November 10, 2023 at St. James Catholic Church, 17 Whig Street, Trumansburg.

The family asks those that would like to make a contribution in Julia’s memory to kindly consider St. James Catholic Church, Trumansburg Volunteer Fire Department, Ulysses Philomathic Library, or the Ulysses Historical Society. More than anything, Julia would want everyone to be kind and perform a random act of kindness in her memory.
