June (Glezen) Wooden

June Glezen Wooden, age 83, formerly of Candor and Trumansburg, died at the Oak Hill Manor in Ithaca on February 14, 2023.

Born in Richford on April 30, 1939, a daughter of the late George W. and Violet (nee Cranmer) Glezen.  She raised her family while married to Gordon Gathany Sr, later married Richard Herbert in 1979 where they jointly owned and operated the family dairy farm in Candor and in 2005 married Jim Wooden.  Jim and June enjoyed retirement together, taking many special trips across the United States.  Over the years, she had also worked at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Owego, at a local convenience store, as well as partnering with her sister in a fitness club venture. Her hobbies included quilting, needlework, flower gardening and cooking.

She is survived by her children; Brenda (Bill Garner) Simonik of Endicott, Gordon (Beverly) Gathany of Carnegie, PA, Michelle (Kevin) Benjamin of Alpine, and Steven (Vicki Grassi) Gathany of Endwell, her grandchildren; Tiffany Simonik, Joshua Gathany, Clark Benjamin, Scott and Ryan Gathany, and great grandchildren; Ameliana, Samantha and Olivia and sisters; Susan Pochily formerly of Richford and Bonnie Martin of Maine, NY.  June was preceded in death by the father of her children, Gordon Gathany Sr., her second husband, Richard Herbert and her most recent husband, Jim Wooden, and by her siblings, George Glezen, Joyce Burhans and Gail Gwardyak.

The family will receive friends at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street in Trumansburg from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Saturday, February 18, 2023. A graveside ceremony will immediately follow at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg. Kindly consider a donation to the American Heart Association or your local food pantry in June’s memory.
