William A. Kastenhuber, Sr., age 73, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Born in Ithaca on January 30, 1939, Bill was the son of William Henry Kastenhuber and Beatrice Hill LaBarr. Following his marriage to Carol A. Weeks on February 23, 1959, the couple raised their family in the Trumansburg area where they enjoyed boating, fishing, and camping together. An all-around horseman, he founded the Tri-County Equestrians, devoting much of his time and talents to make this worthwhile endeavor successful. Throughout life Bill sought out cars and other projects to tinker upon. For his family members, the only catch was that Bill’s talent for tinkering was matched by his finesse in trading. Bill’s was a familiar face in the student union building at Cornell where he worked in Custodial Services for over 30 years.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by one brother-in-law, Art Nichol. He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Deborah (James) Wage of Grandy, NC and Leslie (Dean) Hendrix of Interlaken; two sons, William A., Jr. (Rebecca) and Brian H. (Jessie) of Grandy, NC; six grandchildren, Jason, Jerry, Amie (Jamie), Randi (Micah), Jimmy and Brent (Caity); six great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Caleb, Gavin, Caylee, Brantley, and Rayce; three sisters, Barbara (Sal) Raineri of Fayetteville, NC, Margaret Selover of Syracuse and Peggyann Nichol of Bryant, AR; one brother, Richard (Phyllis) of Union Grove, NC and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at the Trumansburg American Legion with the Rev. Cheryl Hine officiating. A reception, also at the legion, will immediately follow the memorial service.
