Katharine Perry Sinko of Trumansburg passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 73.
Kate was born in Elmira on September 23, 1944, a daughter of the late John and Maryanna (Hoffman) Perry. After graduating from Elmira High School she attended Wagner College, obtaining her Bachelors Degree before attending Elmira College, earning her Masters in Education. Kate worked at Trumansburg Elementary School as a fourth grade teacher for several years before taking a position as the elementary art teacher, a position she held until her retirement.
Kate’s zest for life was evident in all aspects of her life. She was a free spirit, fiercely independent, thoughtful, kind, and friend to anyone she encountered. She was an active member of the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, member and supporter of the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts, and the Trumansburg Golf Course.
Kate is survived by three children, Stuart (Melinda) Krause, Stephen (Jennifer) Sinko, and Edie Fulton; son in law, Jason Fulton; former spouse, George Sinko; ten grandchildren, Andrew Kodis, Nathan and Jacob Krause, Sarah and Chloe Sinko, Sophie, Olivia, and Payten Baldizan, and Ethan and Owen Fulton; three sisters, Maryanna (David) Perry Crawford, Jane (William) Perry Kufta, and Cindy Lou (Butch) Perry Farnham; partner in crime, Henry VanNess; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends from 3:00 to 6:00pm on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those to kindly consider making a contribution in Kate’s memory to the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, PO Box 628, Trumansburg, NY 14886 or the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts, PO Box 1053, Trumansburg, NY 14886. Additionally, Kate’s artwork will be displayed throughout services and will be available for purchase. In keeping with Kate’s spirit of paying it forward, all funds collected will be donated to the church or conservatory.
