Katherine “Kaye” C. Wollney

Katherine “Kaye” Clark Wollney, 92, born to Kenneth Clark and Flora Lane Clark in Guilford, CT on July 24, 1925, died on April 15, 2018.

Kaye grew up a dairyman’s daughter in Connecticut, received a Bachelors Degree from Douglass College at Rutger’s University, and went to earn a Masters Degree at New School for Social Research in NYC. While taking classes in NYC she met and married LeRoy Vincent Wollney. Together the couple raised three children on Staten Island where Kaye taught classes at Wagner College. Over a 30+ year career at Wagner, she taught a wide variety of developmental and life stage psychology courses and enjoyed time spent with the “Psych Club.” Meanwhile, Kaye also was actively involved in her community as a den mother to her son’s boy scouts, a leader of Camp Fire Girls (now co-ed), and as a Sunday School teacher/superintendent for Bethel United Methodist Church. There was always some project, book, and a lap or listening ear for the numerous children in her life. Kaye continued sharing her love of reading, baking, and teaching with the Forest Home Chapel community, the Enfield Afterschool Program, and in daycare settings after her retirement to Enfield. Kaye was also engaged in the issues of the day, working for the environment and volunteering with the League of Women Voters, the local Partners for Reading Program, and Area Congregations Together. She worked at Richmond Town Historical Restoration on Staten Island bringing history to life, and in her quiet times enjoyed a good book, needlework, or a good show on PBS.

Kaye is survived by her husband of 68 years, LeRoy; three children, Clayton (Janyce), Dana (Carol), and Gwen (Margaret); four grandchildren, Alaric (Megan), Seth, Vaughn, and Jenna; and two great grandchildren, Jordan and Paige.

Kaye will be buried at Greensprings Natural Cemetery, wishing to honor and treat the Earth gently in death. A Memorial service will be held at Forest Home Chapel at a later date.
