Kermit G. Leonard former lifelong resident of Mecklenburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the age of 99.

Kermit was born on July 25, 1916 in Mecklenburg, a son of the late Fred and Henrietta (Warren) Leonard. He owned and operated his own farm and was an extremely active member of the Mecklenburg community throughout his entire life. Kermit was the last surviving charter member of the Mecklenburg Fire Department, served as a trustee at the Mecklenburg United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Trumansburg Masonic Lodge #157 for over 70 years.

Kermit is survived by a daughter, Sally (Chuck) Sumner; one grandchildren, Rusdi (Cindi Wetmore) Sumner; and two great grandchildren, Dylan and Jagger Sumner. In addition to his parents, Kermit was preceded in death by his wife Grace Leonard in 2000; three sisters, Freda Batty, Eleanor Soule, and Vivian Leonard; and a half-brother, Asa Leonard.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 12 at the Mecklenburg United Methodist Church, 6063 Turnpike Road, Mecklenburg.
