Laura E. Marcy

d. January 27, 2014

Laura Elaine (Webster Spearman) Marcy was called to be with her gracious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 27, 2014 at home surrounded by family and friends.

On September 29, 1958, Laura was born to Sarah Louise Spearman and then husband Robert Welles Webster in Montour Falls. After adoption by her step-father Richard Spearman, she was blessed with her brother and sister, Rick (Annette) Spearman and Melanie (Andy) Spearman Prinzing. Laura graduated from Dryden High School in 1976 and attended SUNY Cortland and Nyack College. After marriage to Dale R. Marcy in 1983, Laura worked several jobs, mainly in the health care field as a hospital aide and certified home health aide.

After becoming disabled, Laura finally achieved the goal of finishing her education, graduating from TC3 in 2003 with an Associates Degree in General Education, and in 2006 with an Office Management Certificate. Thanks to her mentor and muse, Professor Bud Moody, Laura was awarded the Presidential Citation in 2005.

Laura was known for her creativity and her generosity of spirit. She shared her artistic talent with everyone and inspired many others.

Laura attributed her achievements to her caring and supportive family including aunts, Sue Alger and Joann Neal, uncle, Vernon Webster, and cousins, Jean Johnson, Barbara Harbott, Gordon Alger, Mary Rekczic, Will Alger and all their families, plus friends, and especially her Savior Jesus Christ. Her favorite Bible verse, John 3:16, sustained her through many trials and dark times.

Known as “Yaya” to her beloved nieces, Sadie Spearman and Isabella Lecek, and nephews, Andrew and Ben Spearman and Peter Prinzing, whom she thoroughly enjoyed. Laura had many hobbies including crafts and genealogy. The loves of her life were her cats and little dog Tazzy, who were her babies.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Danby Federated Church.
