d. June 11, 2004

Wilfred "Wil" Lincoln Chaffee of 2381 Perry City Road, Ithaca, beloved husband and father, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus, on Friday, June 11, 2004 at his residence while surrounded by his loving family.

Born on June 23, 1927 in LeRaysville, Pennsylvania, Wil was the son of Rev. Ralph T. Chaffee and Marjorie Mettler Chaffee. He was a graduate of Owego Free Academy and Delhi University. For nearly a decade Wil lived in Florida where he never tired of the ocean and the deep sea fishing that it provided.

In 1959 Wil moved to the Ithaca area, where he was a member of the Bricklayers Local and worked for various contractors before his 22 years of teaching masonry at TST BOCES, from which he retired in 1989. When not working, Wil enjoyed being outdoors where he could pursue his interests in fishing, hunting and gardening. Wil also spent many hours with his stamp and coin collections. He was a member of New Life Presbyterian Church in Ithaca, the Trumansburg Senior Citizens, Ulysses Historical Society and the NRA.

Wil was preceded in death by a brother, Sidney. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and devoted wife of 53 years, Irene Baker Chaffee; one daughter, Stephanie (Terry) Snedeker of Dryden; one son, Craig (Kathy) Chaffee of Newfield; five grandchildren, Benjamin (Sarah) Snedeker, Sarah K. Snedeker, Jordan Snedeker, Rachael Chaffee and Elisha Chaffee; one sister, Opal (Dale) Linebaugh of Spring Creek, PA; one brother, Douglas (Melba) Chaffee of Ulster, PA and several nieces and nephews.
