Linda D. “Lin” Hoyt of Trumansburg passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Cayuga Medical Center at the age of 63.
Lin was born in Walton, a daughter to Bruce and Barbara (Caffery) Hoyt. She attended Walton High School graduating in 1970. In 1974, she graduated from Russell Sage College with her Bachelors Degree and earned her Masters in Education from SUNY Binghamton in 1980. Lin worked for Delaware Regional Center from 1975-1981 before taking a position at Tompkins-Seneca-Tioga BOCES in 1982. During her years at BOCES, she represented her coworkers as a member of the union negotiating team before retiring in 2010.
An avid flower and vegetable gardener, Lin maintained several perennial gardens and day lily beds, both of which were her pride and joy. She loved attending the Grassroots Festival, dancing for as long as she had energy for. Lin took pride in caring for her home and enjoyed entertaining family and friends as often as she could.
Lin is survived by her husband of 17 years, Kurt Van Ness; father, Bruce Hoyt of Walton; two brothers, James (Patricia) Hoyt of Walton and Joe (Kay) Hoyt of Nancy KY; sister, Victoria (Eric) Hoyt-Nordberg of Oneonta; two step sons, Steven Van Ness of Columbus, OH and Lt. Col. Dana (Carrie) Van Ness and their daughters, Lainey and Kylie, all of Leavenworth, KS; and many nieces, nephews and their children, all of which were her favorites.
A Celebration of Lin’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at the West Delhi Presbyterian Church, 45 Sutherland Road, Delhi, NY.
An open house will be held celebrating Lin’s life on May 30, 2016 at the family Memorial Day picnic at the Van Ness family pond. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Lin’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Ste 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 or the Spina Bifida Association, 1600 Wilson Blvd, Suite 800, Arlington, VA 22209.
