Lynda Susan Manchester Kroboth, aged 89, of Trumansburg, NY died of lung cancer on August 8, 2022. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Richard, her parents, Millicent Vincent Manchester and Roy Manchester and brothers, Ned (Margaret), Hugh (Marion), Neil (Lois) and her twin brother, Lynn. She is survived by daughters, Melanie Chapel and her fiancé, Harvey Shapiro, of Trumansburg, Melissa Bartlett and her husband, John, of Niskayuna, Scarlett Sampsell and her husband, Todd, of Manlius, as well as former son-in-law, Patrick Chapel. Lynda is also survived by grandchildren, Andrew Bartlett, Geoff Chapel, Melinda Bartlett Cabral (Daniel), Neil Chapel, and Jace Sampsell, sister-in-law, Mary Jane Manchester, cousin, Jack Manchester (Joyce) and many dearly loved nieces, nephews and friends.

Lynda grew up on a family farm in Petersburgh, NY. A graduate of Berlin Central High School and Plattsburgh State Teachers College, she was a first generation college graduate. Always a leader, she was elected class president in high school, triumphing over her sweetheart, Richard Kroboth, something they laughed about for years. She was class president in college as well. She had a long and successful teaching career primarily teaching second grade at Vestal Hills Elementary School in Vestal, NY. Lynda and Dick had an amazing marriage and raised three daughters, giving them an idyllic childhood including summers on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca at the cottage they all loved. Lynda was a generous hostess and loved gathering people together and learning all about them. She was an avid supporter and past president of the local chapter of American Association of University Women (AAUW). A talented quilter, she gained skills and friendships as part of a quilt group that met weekly. She started a book club with friends. Lynda and Dick traveled to 38 countries and every US state. Her love of family and history led to her interest in genealogy. She painstakingly discovered and recorded dates and fascinating family stories. Her granddaughter, Melinda, will continue on with her work.

After many years in her dream home on Denal Way in Vestal, in 2020 she moved to Trumansburg to be closer to her daughter, Melanie. Recently, when Lynda’s illness progressed, she moved to Hospicare in Ithaca where she received compassionate care in a beautiful setting. She enjoyed the birds and flowers and had many visitors.

Calling hours will be 1:00-2:00 pm on September 10 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St, Trumansburg, NY. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm.
