Mae “Bonnie” Smith, Bonita

d. April 1, 2004

Bonita "Bonnie" Mae Smith of 33 Halsey St, Trumansburg passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center on Thursday, April 1, 2004 at the age of 52.

Born on April 2, 1951 in Elmira, New York, Bonnie was the daughter of Louis and Virginia Heib Rogers of Alpine.

Following graduation from Ithaca High School in 1969, Bonnie completed Nursing School at BOCES in 1971 and achieved her Associates Degree in Medical Assistance from TC3. Through the years Bonnie had worked at Cayuga Medical Center and the medical office of Dr. Timothy Cardina in Ithaca. Many Trumansburg residents remember Bonnie's smile and quick wit at Barry's Family Restaurant where she worked as a waitress for many years.

She was also proud of her membership in the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post #770 Auxiliary. Bonnie thoroughly enjoyed family, especially her cherished grandchildren. Whenever possible, Bonnie would care for them at her home and shower those angels with love and affection.

In addition to her parents in Alpine, Bonnie is survived by her beloved husband of 33 years, Barry L. Smith; two sons, Rob (April) Smith of Syracuse and Rick (Brandi) Smith of Trumansburg; three grandchildren, Megan, Mackenzie and Anthony; two brothers, Daniel Rogers of Homer and James (Barbara) Rogers of Ithaca; two sisters, Judy (Ed) Brown of Ithaca and Terry (Bill) Thorpe of Alpine; two aunts, two uncles and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St, Trumansburg on Monday, April 5 from 7-9 pm.

Private family services will be scheduled at a later date. A reception will be held for Bonnie's family and friends at the American Legion Post #770, 4431 Seneca Road, Trumansburg on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at 1:00 pm. Everyone who knew Bonnie is invited to attend.
