Richard M. "Dick" Mann, Sr. of 5585 Fitzgerald Road, Mecklenburg, passed away unexpectedly at Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at the age of 80.

Born on May 26, 1927 in Apalachin, New York, Dick was the son of Kenneth and Laura (Walker) Mann. He served in the Merchant Marines before accepting a position with McGuire & Bennett Construction in Ithaca. Dick was a member of Ithaca Local #17, Bricklayers & Allied Craft and had been employed at the racetrack in Watkins Glen, as well as Fountainebleau Inn on Kayutah Lake in Alpine.

For many years, Dick and his wife, Ruth H. (Short) Mann enjoyed six months in Bushnell, Florida. They both enjoyed singing karaoke, playing billiards, riding his motorcycle and flying in his plane. He was Past President of the Inland Divers Club and used his diving expertise when called upon by the Schuyler Co. Sheriff's Dept. The sheriff's department also included Dick when they were forming a posse as he was an expert in running bloodhounds.

In addition to his grandparents, Robert and Edith Walker, Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnne Mann; a brother, James Tracey; his in-laws, Grant and Margaret Short; a brother-in-law, Richard Simpson: a great-grandson, Jacob W. Slater, and his mother, Laura Tracey. He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Ruth H. Mann of Mecklenburg; three daughters, Janice (Richard) Holford of Mountain View, MO, Barbara (Jerrold) Friedman of Ithaca and Doreen (Tom) Burns of Lodi; two sons, Richard M. Mann, Jr. of Trumansburg and Mark (Lorie) Mann of Burdett; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alice Howe of Colorado and many nieces and nephews.

In keeping with Dick's wishes, no calling hours have been scheduled. A casual celebration of life service will be held at the Mann family residence, 5585 Fitzgerald Road in Mecklenburg on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 1:00 pm.
