Marion Ann Oaks of Lansing, passed away surrounded by her family at Beechtree Care Center on Friday, March 23, 2012 at the age of 94.

Born in Auburn on February 12, 1918, Marion was the daughter of the late John and Florence (Blaisdell) Groesbeck. She attended school in Auburn. In 1939, Marion married Russell Scott Oaks. Raising her four boys was of utmost importance to Marion. She taught them how to cook, iron, and sew and loved them unconditionally. Marion’s gift of crafting was reflected in the baskets she created using old jewelry.

She is survived by three sons, Gary Oaks of Phoenix, Charles of Trumansburg, and John of Lansing; six grandchildren, Charles “Scott,” Jody, Anthony, Amber, Seth, and Samual; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Chayka of Cortland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Scott Oaks in 2007; son, Robert Oaks; three brothers, Floyd, LeRoy, and William Groesbeck; and two sisters, Jean Tolvock and Kathryn Hundley.

The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday with Rev. Tim Hamilton officiating. Prayers of committal will follow in Grove Cemetery.
