Marion H. Schneider, age 90, of 8913 State Route 96, died on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Cayuga Medical Center, following a recent illness.
Marion was born on January 14, 1922 in New York City, a daughter of the late Leonard and Emma (Mabie) Hanson. She graduated from Leonia High School in New Jersey and received her degree in health and physical education from Boston University. Marion taught briefly in Oxford, OH, prior to her marriage to her childhood friend, Robert “Bruce” Schneider, on June 15, 1946, in Leonia, NJ. They established their first home in River Vale, NJ and following WWII, through the GI Bill, they came to Cornell University, and Bruce worked at Duddleston Farms. While on a Sunday drive in 1950, they found a farm in the Town of Covert, and purchased it soon afterwards. Together, along with their children, they operated an egg business for many years at the family farm. Bruce saw the need to start up a construction business, and once again, Marion was at his side to help with that endeavor, in addition to the installation of swimming pools throughout the area. They built their present home, across the road from the original farm, moving in during 1970. She had been an active member of the Interlaken Reformed Church, and most recently, a member of the United Methodist Church of Trumansburg. With much love and adoration, Marion was very proud of her large family, and their many accomplishments.
Marion is survived by her husband of 66 years, Robert Bruce Schneider, (or Pete the Peddler as she affectionately called him), her children; Robert Bruce (Phyllis) Schneider Jr., of Ringwood, NJ, L. Douglas (Linda) Schneider of Ossining, NY, Doris S. (Dan) Robinson, of Jacksonville, Susan (Patricia Vorel) Schneider of Mendham, NJ and Donald G. (Teresa) Schneider of Dallas, TX, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister.
