Marion Y. Hoffmire of Trumansburg passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017.

Marion was born on March 12, 1926 in Riverhead, Long Island, a daughter of the late Carl C. and Alta H. (Hallock) Young. She received her Bachelors Degree from Russell Sage College in Troy and worked for Cornell Cooperative Extension in Madison County following graduation. In 1949 Marion married James H. Hoffmire and raised their family in Trumansburg while she taught at Trumansburg Central Schools in various positions.

Marion was an avid quilter, gardener, and genealogist. She loved family gatherings and spending time with friends. Marion was a 66 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses. An active member of the Trumansburg community, Marion was a founding member of the Ulysses Historical Society, member of the Taughannock Garden Club, and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Marion is survived by her lifelong friend, Roger Batcheleder, DVM of Cortland; four children, Beth “Becky” (Thomas) Heideman of Lockport, Peter Hoffmire of Geneseo, Scott (Judy) Hoffmire Boynton Beach, FL, and Gregg (Leslie) Hoffmire of Trumansburg; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and nephew, David (Alana) Fontanella of Trumansburg. In addition to her parents, Marion was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Hoffmire, DVM; and daughter, Carol Lynn Hoffmire.

A Celebration of Marion’s Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses, 69 East Main Street, Trumansburg with Pastor Cheryl Peeples officiating. Burial will be private at Grove Cemetery.
