Marjorie R. Belknap, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida on Monday, November 2, 2009 at the age of 84.
Born in Lakewood, Ohio on December 2, 1924, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Earl and Louise (Angell) Butler. She was a graduate of the Lakewood High School Class of 1943. After raising her four children, Marjorie attended Cortland State University, earning a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Following graduation in 1964, Marjorie accepted a sixth grade teaching position at the Trumansburg Central School District. For 16 years, she enjoyed the many relationships developed with both students and faculty.
In her retirement years, Marjorie and her husband, Gordon, traveled extensively to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, parts of Europe, and most of the United States. She was an active member of the Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 Order of the Eastern Star and the Trumansburg Rainbow Girls. While living in Largo, Florida, she belonged to the Rug-Hooking Guild of Largo and spent many hours with Gordon and their friends playing shuffleboard. Marjorie's hand hooked rugs took numerous prizes at the State Fairs in both New York and Florida.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Belknap and her first husband Ivan Weaver. She is survived by two sons, Lee (Susan) Weaver of Trumansburg and Larry (Sharon) Weaver of Ithaca; two daughters, Lynda Weaver of Syracuse and Joyce Whitson of Largo, FL; two sisters, Mary (Don) Gottlieb of Ohio and Ellen Dobbins of Ohio; two step-daughters, Judy Mullins of Keuka Park and Beth Bibbie of Willseyville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her beloved dog and cat, Ha,'Penny and Sam.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at the American Legion Post #770 in Trumansburg on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at 1:00pm.
A private graveside service will be held at Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden.
