Marjorie N. Stevenson

d. February 14, 2012

Marjorie N. Stevenson, of 51 Cayuga Street, Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly at Cayuga Medical Center on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the age of 77.

Born in Ithaca on September 21, 1934, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Brady and Florence (Cornell) Newhart. She was a lifelong resident of Trumansburg, graduating in 1952 from Trumansburg High School. Over the past 40 years Marjorie offered daycare in her home, touching the lives of hundreds of Trumansburg children.

Marjorie enjoyed making new friends and connecting with old friends while camping at Sampson State Park, Clute Park, and Selkirk Shores. She enjoyed shopping, and whenever possible checking out all the local garage sales.

Most of all, she cherished times spent with family, especially her grandchildren. Marjorie and her husband, Ramon, traveled all over the North East in support of their grandchildren. They could often be found in the stands at sporting events or attending dance competitions. Her warm supportive presence will be missed by her family.

Marjorie is survived by her husband, Ramon Stevenson of Trumansburg; three children, David (Holly) Stevenson of Ithaca, Chris (Andrea) Stevenson of Trumansburg, and Susan Meyer of Trumansburg; seven grandchildren, Amber, Jenna (Eric), Kylee, Emily, Luke, Jordan, and Connor; a great-granddaughter, Anaya; sister, Thelma Onan; brother, Bruce (Jackie) Newhart; brother-in-law, Richard (Norma) Stevenson; sister-in-law, Rheta Newhart; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Edward Newhart, Betty Wilson, Gean Manheim, Brady Newhart Jr., Janet Smith and Connie Newhart; brothers-in-law, James Wilson, James Manheim, and John Onan; as well as her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Lawrence and Marjorie Stevenson.

The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 to 1:00pm on Friday, February 17, 2012 at First Baptist Church, 4443 Seneca Road, Trumansburg. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the church with Pastor Dennis Christiansen officiating. Prayers of committal will be held privately in Frear Memorial Park.

The family asks those who wish to make a contribution in Marjorie’s memory to kindly consider the American Diabetes Association, Memorial Program, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
