Marjorie Stewart Van Ness

Marjorie Stewart Van Ness of Trumansburg passed away on May 9, 2024 at the age of 97.

Marjorie was born in Montour Falls on July 12, 1926, a daughter of the late Homer and Ruth (Pendorf) Stewart. She worked for over 25 years at Cornell University in the Summer Session Department. Traveling was one of her favorite things to do and she especially enjoyed Aruba, Ireland and elder hostels. Marjorie was an avid reader her entire life and knitted many afghans, hats and mittens for family members.

Marjorie cherished moments spent with family and some of her fondest memories were made at family picnics at Lake Marjorie.

Marjorie is survived by four children, Kurt (Beverly Johnson) Van Ness, Henry Van Ness, Amy Smith, and Karen (Michael) Carvell; grandchildren, Steven Van Ness, Dana (Carrie) Van Ness, Meggan Van Ness, Charlie Van Ness, Scott Smith, Shannon (Kevin) Albrecht, Jeremy (Megan) Smith, Dan (Jamie) Carvell, and Tim (Clare) Carvell; eight great granddaughters; sister in law, Mary Lou (Ed) Brown; and three nieces and two nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Greg Van Ness; brother, Paul Stewart; daughters in law, Marilyn Van Ness and Linda Hoyt; and son in law, David Smith.

In keeping with Marjorie’s wishes, there will be no public services.
