Mary V. Breed

d. February 14, 2014

Mary Virginia Breed left this world in the early morning hours on February 14, 2014 to spend her Valentine’s Day in heaven with the love of her life, Jack Breed.

Born 94 years ago on October 24, 1919 in Eminence, Kentucky, Mary traveled to New York to attend Business College and met her husband Jack. She worked as a nurse’s aide in Ithaca at the then Tompkins County Hospital, now Cayuga Medical Center, for 18 years.

Mary loved unconditionally and deeply cared for everyone. She had many “grandchildren” and treated every child as if they were one of her own grandchildren. A very special thanks to Bama for his love over the years.

Animals also held a special place in Mary’s heart. She had several dogs and cats throughout her life and loved each one very much. The Mecklenburg and Trumansburg United Methodist Churches were a very important part of her life as well. She religiously attended church every Sunday until her health kept her from attending. She will be greatly missed by all she knew but never forgotten.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Nancy Breed (Larry Drake); grandchildren, Nancy Ann (Thomas) Connors, Richard (Donna) Dickens, Tim Drake (Sara Bong), Jacqueline Drake (Reuben Chicone), Dusty Delong, and David and Christine Ledger; twelve great grandchildren, Tasha Williams, Sierra Conroy, Cole Oliver, Amanda, Anna and Amelia Dickens, Austin, Collin, and Blake Delong, Memphis Williams, Rowen Drake, and Wren Mauro; one great granddaughter, completing a fifth generation, Kalyah Armstrong; sister, LaVern Nelson of Louisville, KY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by several siblings.

The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Funeral Services will immediately follow at Noon, at the funeral home.

The family asks those who wish to make a contribution in Mary’s memory to consider the local SPCA or Humane Society.
