Mary Jo Myers

d. November 7, 2012

Mary Jo Myers of 107 Larchmont Dr., Trumansburg, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, at the age of 77.

Born on December 24, 1934 in Doniphan, Missouri, Mary Jo was the daughter of Therman Ivis and Lura Pauline (Corby) McKinney. She held positions at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in St. Louis, MO and the US Army Finance Center in Ft. Benning, GA, but Mary Jo always felt that her most important life’s work was that of a wife, mother and grandmother. Guiding the family with a constant melody in her heart, Mary Jo would sing her children to sleep, lull them to calm when upset and share her gift of piano playing with them. Mary Jo was an active member of the Trumansburg United Methodist Church since 1987 when she and her husband Ron moved to Trumansburg. She enjoyed serving as the church’s Coffee Hour Coordinator, participating in the United Methodist Women, and singing with her friends in the church choir. She was also a member of the Trumansburg Senior Citizens and served on the Gemm Shop Board of Directors. Mary Jo’s gentle, caring manner touched all who knew her in a positive way. Her spirit will maintain a warm glow in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Mary Jo was preceded in death by one sister, Frances Chloa McKinney. She is survived by her sweetheart, Ron to whom she was married on February 4, 1956; two sons, David Leslie Myers of Sycamore, IL and Kevin Lee Myers of Trumansburg, NY; one daughter, Linda Sue Rorke of Bettendorf, IA; five grandchildren, Kathryn Ann and Jennifer Ruth Myers and Jacob Lawrence, James Daniel and Brady Ronald Rorke; two brothers, Michael Steven McKinney of Seabrook, TX and Robert Lee McKinney of Hillsboro, MO and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Monday, November 12, 2012 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, 80 East Main Street, Trumansburg with the Rev. Dr. Jeff Losey officiating. Prayers of Committal will follow in the Grove Cemetery. Friends and family will join in the fellowship of a reception at the church immediately following the Prayers of Committal.
